Google AdWords For Beginners Part 1.
The internet has grown to be a huge collection of interlinked web pages containing information about every conceivable topic. In fact recent estimates put the number of pages at approximately 30 billion, that’s 30,000,000,000 web pages!
This huge size obviously poses some serious questions, the main one being:
How do I find a web page containing an item of interest to me and how do I make sure that I find the best resource possible?
Setup the Search Engine
Search Engines systematically “crawl” the internet adding new web pages to their huge databases. The Search Engine then allows internet users to “search” this information. To ensure that users find the most relevant, highest quality resources the various search engines have secret mathematical algorithms that rank the pages. Factors such as how many inbound links a site has amongst others are taken into account.
Obviously everyone who creates a web page wants to people to find and view the page, especially if the web site has commercial value, an online shop for example. This desire quickly gave rise to the field of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). This is the practice of making changes to a web page and other associated factors to try and gain as high a position as possible in the Search Engine results pages (SERPs). SEO is both costly and time consuming. However for businesses that cannot afford SEO or the time it takes there is another mechanism to get found.
Google AdWords allows for the paid placement of adverts next the SERPs on Google and it’s associated search network e.g. AOL, ASK etc. It also allows advertisers to place ads on the Google content network. You will likely have been on a site containing text ads with the tag “Ads by Google”.
“Should I use Google AdWords?” or “Will AdWords work for my business?” is a question that businesses are asking all over the world.
